  • Research: I am continuing to write a couple of books. One is a non traditional approach to writing. It has met some resistance since developmental educators are combining reading with writing and are using a variety of programs. However, my approach will continue to be focused on one's own experience. I am also trying to research a book on Dr. WIlliam Whaley; he is the physician who took care of Sen. Lyndon Johnson after the senator's first heart attack in 1955. I will continue to conduct more focus groups on a theory I conducted with positive feedback. I plan on moving forward this academic year to pursue and begin writing chapters based on the feedback from the focus groups which will introduce a twist on teaching writing from experiences people have occurred in their lives. The common element will show how consistency in how people lie can parallel traditional writing theories with fewer grammar errors.

  • Research: Having worked through a period of steady decline in the traditional media industry, Kelly has a strong interest in media economics and patterns of news consumption and avoidance - especially among young adults. He is increasingly interested in political tribalism, especially emotional distance and distrust ("affective polarization") and what can be done to reduce it.
Teaching: I love bringing smartphones into my teaching. I use mine to teach techniques, teach students how to use it as a secondary camera, require social media in all my reporting classes... I even teach app emulation tools.

  • Dr. Pritha Chakraborty Asst Professor of Instruction - Mathematics

My research explores the rich interactions between these areas, especially as they pertain to solving problems in both theoretical and applied mathematics.
Teaching: - Designed and delivered courses in both traditional and online formats.
    - Developed course materials and assessments to enhance student learning and engagement.
    - Implemented various technologies to foster interactive and engaging learning experiences.

  • Dr. Vaughn Bryan Baltzly Associate Professor - Philosophy
Research: Vaughn's research falls under the interdisciplinary framework these days widely known as "PPE": "Philosophy, Politics, and Economics." Within the broader PPE umbrella, Vaughn's earlier publications clustered more in the field of applied ethics, while more recent publications have focused on the philosophy of economics. A pair of recent publications address pedagogical matters as well. Finally: under the influence of (and sometimes in collaboration with) his wife, Colleen Myles (a professor in Texas State's Department of Geography and Environmental Studies), Vaughn has begun publishing in the field of the "philosophy of food."

A forthcoming book with Broadview Press provides an introduction to the field of PPE, augmented with a dose of (evolutionary moral) psychology. Accordingly, the book is provisionally titled PPE+: On Ethics, Economics, Psychology, and Politics (or, Restoring the 'Moral Sciences').

Teaching: Vaughn teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in ethics and political philosophy -- most commonly, Honors sections of PHIL 1320 ("Ethics & Society") and PHIL 5320 ("History of Ethics"). In addition, he was, from 2017 through 2024, the coach of the Texas State "Ethics Bowl" team.
