Biography and education

Ryan McPherson serves as an Adjunct Faculty for Texas State University-San Marcos, Professor of Practice at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), and Founder and CEO of Storytelling Movement. Ryan is a Communication Consultant helping people tell more persuasive stories.

Ryan is an ACUE Teaching Fellow, Adobe Creative Campus Faculty Fellow, and Quality Matters Peer Reviewer. He has designed and delivered over 22 university communication courses since 2004 for over 10,000 people. He has improved over 20,000 presentations. Ryan is the Founder and Chair of the UTSA StorySLAM! presentational speaking competition.



Selected Achievements
Earned 4 UTSA Library OER Grant Teaching Awards; Designed over 5 OER courses; Delivered 6 OER Courses; Edited 2 OER texts; Saved students over $100,000 in textbook costs each year.

Created and delivered over 22 distinct university courses (16 online) and more than 658 semester credit hours for over 10,000 people; Trained and mentored 9 graduate teaching assistants.

Completed over 600 contact hours of intensive professional development opportunities and full courses focused on elevating instruction in higher education.

Named UTSA Digital Champion for the Department of Communication; Inaugural Adobe Creative Cloud Faculty Fellow; Certified Quality Matters Peer Reviewer.

Raised scholarship funds, produced, and chaired StorySLAM! at UTSA since 2012; Founded and advised two communication student organizations at UTSA; Chaired various committees.

Received National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS) Award for creating peer-reviewed open online university corporate communication course (Created in 2012).

Served as President of local nonprofits; Peer Mentor Team Leader; Created “Friends of Communication” and departmental social media presence; Produced conferences.

Researched and delivered over 35 communication instructional communication presentations, workshops, and modules for internal and external audiences.
