Biography and education

Fidelis A. Emuze, PhD, is a Professor of Instruction in Construction Science and Management (CSM) in the Department of Engineering Technology at Texas State University.

Dr Emuze’s primary research interests span lean construction, construction health and safety, sustainability, and construction and engineering education, with a particular emphasis on workforce development, safety education, and systems-based improvement. He has published over 350 research outputs, received more than 25 awards and recognitions, and successfully supervised 23 doctoral graduates.

Dr Emuze is the editor of Value and Waste in Lean Construction and Valuing People in Construction, and co-editor of Construction Health and Safety in Developing Countries, Construction Safety, Health and Well-being in the COVID-19 Era, and the Handbook of Drivers of Continuous Improvement in Construction Health, Safety, and Well-being. He has also co-authored Training-Within-Industry Job Programs for Improved Construction Safety, Moving the Construction Safety Climate Forward in Developing Countries, and Unpacking the Decent Work Agenda in Construction Operations for Developing Countries. He is the author of the Construction Safety Pocketbook for South Africa.

With formal qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, and Higher Education, Dr Emuze proposed and led the development of 10 accredited university qualifications in South Africa. Since joining Texas State University, he has also developed two new graduate courses in CSM, reflecting his sustained contributions to curriculum design, instructional innovation, and postgraduate education in the built environment.
