Biography

I am an Assistant Professor of Instruction for the Department of Mathematics. I have been in this position for 1 year. I have been an instructor for over 8 years with the department. I am currently a PhD student in Mathematics Education. I received my Masters of Pure Mathematics from Texas State University with a minor in Adult Education and my Bachelor's in Pure Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin.

Research Interests

Previously, my research interests included the application of differential equations to the field of capillarity, particularly the study of multiple fluids at rest. Also, my previous research focused on forming matrix structures in an interactive proof solving system in order to generate improved algorithms for aircraft tracking systems. Currently, I am working to complete a dissertation in the Math Education PhD Program so that I may study cognition, student-thinking, student-centered learning, and theories of learning in the context of research in undergraduate mathematics. My goal is to become a researcher in undergraduate mathematics education at a professional level.

Teaching Interests

For teaching, I am regularly exploring ways of improving teaching strategies, professional development opportunities, and careful evaluation of student interaction and feedback to inform my teaching implementation choices. I thrive professionally when engaging in high interaction discourse with my students about mathematical content in the classroom setting. My teaching is mostly informed by the study of math education literature and review of current research presentations of the Math Education Seminar. My goal is to develop and implement task-based curriculum for students informed by current research to support students in developing strong conceptual understanding of topics that provide solid scaffolding opportunities for current and future learning.
