Biography
Dr. Steven Rayburn is Chair of the Management Department and Professor of Marketing at the McCoy College of Business Administration, Honorary Professor for the Center for International Studies, and Faculty Director of Service-Learning Excellence at Texas State University and a Fulbright Specialist. Dr. Rayburn takes a pragmatic, mastery approach to teaching and has used service-learning in the classroom for over a decade. Having personally seen the benefit to students and the community, he is an avid proponent of expanding service-learning to as many courses and degree programs as possible across the university.
Prior to coming to Texas State University he received his Doctorate in Marketing at Oklahoma State University. He received both his Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Master of Business Administration from University of Louisville. Prior to coming to academia he enjoyed a successful career managing front-line employees in service, retail, and sales organizations.
Dr. Rayburn's research focuses on the organizational frontline and explores the strategic implications of work and service design on worker and consumer outcomes. The goal of his research is to positively impact organizations’ ability to both reach their operational and financial goals and provide for employee and consumer well-being.
Dr. Rayburn’s research has been published in Journal of Service Research, Journal of Public Policy and Marketing, Journal of Business Research, European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, International Journal of Consumer Studies, Journal of Services Marketing, Services Industries Journal, Journal of Selling, Journal of Research for Consumers, and other international academic journals. He has presented his research at multiple national and international marketing, sales, and public policy conferences. Dr. Rayburn has also applied what he has learned in leadership, training, and work design research to course design for student success and has published his research in the Marketing Education Review and the Journal for the Advancement of Marketing.
