Biography
Aryn N. Brown, MSN, RN, CCRN-CMC, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the St. David’s School of Nursing at Texas State University. Her academic and professional background encompasses nursing education, leadership, professional development, critical care, and cardiovascular nursing.
Aryn earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Baylor University before pursuing her Master of Science in Nursing with a focus in Leadership in Diverse Settings at The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing. She also holds a teaching certificate and has continued to develop her expertise in nursing education and professional leadership through academic teaching, mentorship, and clinical professional development.
Prior to joining Texas State University, Aryn developed her clinical skills as a registered nurse in medical and neuroscience intensive care and cardiovascular intensive care. She subsequently transitioned into nursing professional development, serving as Nursing Professional Development Practitioner for the Ascension Seton Cardiac Service Line, and later as a Nursing Professional Development Specialist at Baylor Scott & White supporting intensive care. These roles provided opportunities to lead educational initiatives, support nurse development at both the market- and site-level, promote evidence-based practice, and contribute to the advancement of nursing practice across complex clinical environments.
Aryn's passion for healthcare ethics is woven throughout her clinical, educational, and professional interests. During her graduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin, she served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the undergraduate Ethics of Health Care course, an experience that strengthened her interest in the ethical dimensions of nursing practice and healthcare delivery. She views ethical reasoning as an essential component of professional nursing practice, particularly when caring for critically ill patients and navigating complex clinical decisions. Her interests in healthcare ethics extend to teaching, professional practice, and research, with a particular focus on supporting nurses and nursing students in developing the knowledge and critical-thinking skills necessary to navigate ethical challenges in the clinical setting.
Aryn maintains national certifications as a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) and Cardiac Medicine Subspecialty Certified (CMC), as well as Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications. Her professional interests include critical care nursing, cardiovascular nursing, nursing professional development, healthcare ethics, leadership, clinical education, and the preparation and development of nurses to provide high-quality care to critically ill patients. She is committed to integrating her clinical leadership experience with nursing education to prepare students for the complexities of contemporary healthcare and to foster confident, knowledgeable, and clinically prepared nurses.
