Biography and expertise
Ph.D., Horticultural Sciences, University of Florida, USA
M.Sc., Bangladesh Agricultural University
B.Sc., Khulna University, Bangladesh
Prosanta Kumar Dash is a horticulturist with more than 14 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic activities in horticultural sciences. He began his academic career in the Agrotechnology Discipline at Khulna University, Bangladesh, where he taught and conducted research for 12 years. Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Dash joined Texas A&M University as a postdoctoral researcher, contributing to a collaborative controlled-environment agriculture project involving Texas A&M University and its Qatar campus. He later served as an Assistant Professor at Eastern Kentucky University before joining Texas State University, where he is currently an Assistant Professor. Dr. Dash’s doctoral research at the University of Florida focused on heat-stress mitigation in early-established strawberry plants and developing improved cropping systems for strawberry growers. His dissertation was selected for the Best Dissertation Award by the Department of Horticultural Sciences in 2019. During his postdoctoral research, he worked with Agrico, a large-scale organic controlled-environment farm in Qatar, where he developed innovative approaches for producing tomatoes under extreme heat conditions in controlled environments.
Dr. Dash’s current research focuses on water conservation, urban food production, and substrate-based hydroponic systems for controlled-environment agriculture. His work aims to develop sustainable and resource-efficient production systems that can improve food production in challenging environments. He is actively seeking national and international research funding and welcomes opportunities to collaborate with researchers, industry partners, and colleagues across universities and disciplines.
