Biography
Originally from Minnesota, I graduated with my B.S. in Mathematics from Minnesota State University, Mankato and then completed my Ph.D. in Mathematics from Iowa State University in 2010. It was as a graduate student at Iowa State University that I fell in love with teaching mathematics. After graduating, I taught mathematics for many years at Dalton State College, a public four-year college in Dalton GA. In the summer of 2026 I moved to Texas to continue my teaching career at Texas State University. In addition to teaching and mathematics, I also enjoy board games, music (my favorite band for many years has been The Smashing Pumpkins), reading, and video games.
Research Interests
My mathematical specialization is in the area of Hopf algebras, an area of abstract algebra which intersects topics such as group theory, linear algebra, representation theory, and category theory.
Teaching Interests
During my career I have enjoyed teaching a large range of undergraduate mathematics courses, many involving algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and linear algebra. I also have experience teaching more advanced undergraduate courses in number theory, abstract algebra, linear algebra and the history of mathematics.
