Biography and education
Dr. Abel Guevara III is a healthcare executive and educator with more than two decades of experience spanning health administration, health informatics, and health information management. His professional background includes executive leadership roles in healthcare operations, compliance, revenue cycle management, and data-driven decision making across pharmacy, durable medical equipment, and complex healthcare delivery environments. Dr. Guevara’s career journey began in frontline healthcare and evolved into senior leadership positions, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of how accurate medical terminology, documentation, and health information systems directly support quality care, patient safety, and operational excellence.
A proud alumnus of Texas State University, Dr. Guevara earned his Master of Health Information Management degree from TXST and remains deeply committed to the university’s mission and community. In addition to serving as an adjunct faculty lecturer in the Health Informatics and Information Management Department, he is an active member of the Texas State University Alumni Association Board of Directors and a Texas State President’s Associate. His dedication to the Bobcat community extends beyond the classroom through continued service, mentorship, and advocacy for students and alumni across the health professions.
Dr. Guevara is passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of healthcare and health information leaders. In the classroom, he emphasizes practical application, professional development, and the importance of mastering foundational concepts such as medical terminology to support future success in HIM and healthcare careers. Guided by a belief in lifelong learning and service, he is committed to creating an engaging, supportive learning environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, think critically, and connect course content to real-world healthcare practice.
