Biography
Dr. Alexia Florentin is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor in Texas, as well as a National Certified Counselor. Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, she earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision, a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and a Bachelor of Arts in Bilingual Healthcare Studies.
Research Interests
Dr. Florentin’s research centers on the intersectionality of family systems, ambiguous loss, and resilience within the context of addiction, how acculturation, trauma, and inter-generational struggles affect the Latinx community in the context of resilience, and cultural and linguistic adaptations of evidence-based interventions in bilingual counseling/supervision.
Teaching Interests
She is currently tenure-track full-time faculty at Texas State University, where she serves as an educator and mentor to counselors-in-training. As a counselor, counselor educator, and researcher, her hopes are to continue to be an advocate for more Hispanic representation in Higher Education!
