Biography
Dr. Florentin was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and immigrated to the U.S. at 9 years old. She holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from Sam Houston State University, a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lamar University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Bilingual Healthcare Studies, also from Sam Houston State University.
Research Interests
Dr. Florentin’s research centers on the intersectionality of family systems, ambiguous loss, and resilience within the context of addiction, how acculturation, trauma, and inter-generational struggles affect the Latinx community in the context of resilience, and cultural and linguistic adaptations of evidence-based interventions in bilingual counseling/supervision.
Teaching Interests
Dr. Florentin's academic career has been marked by a dedicated commitment to teaching and service, bridging the gap from “book world” to the “real world”, where she has had the opportunity to teach graduate-level counseling courses as adjunct faculty at Oklahoma City University's Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program, and now as tenure-track full-time faculty at Texas State University. Her hopes are to continue to be an advocate for more Hispanic representation in Higher Education!
