Biography and Education

Dr. Nathan Nagir is a dynamic choral conductor, educator, and clinician, currently serving as a Lecturer of Choral Music at Texas State University. In this role, he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in conducting and choral literature while directing university choral ensembles.
A dedicated and experienced educator, Dr. Nagir previously held the position of Director of Choral Studies at Wright State University, where he led the choral program and mentored aspiring conductors. His leadership in choral music extends beyond academia, having served as a clinician and guest conductor for various choral festivals and honor choirs, including the TMEA Region 14 Small School Choir.
Dr. Nagir earned a Certificate of Music in Pan (steelpan) and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of the West Indies, a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Texas State University and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin. His research interests include choral pedagogy, ensemble rehearsal techniques, and cross-cultural influences in choral music.
Active in professional organizations, he is a member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). In addition to his academic work, Dr. Nagir frequently collaborates with church and community choirs, fostering a deep connection between music and the broader community.
