Dr. Tsz-Chiu Au

  • Associate Professor at Computer Science, College of Science & Engineering

Biography

Before joining Texas State University, Dr. Au was an associate professor at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology in South Korea, where he conducted research in artificial intelligence, robotics, and intelligent transportation systems. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas at Austin from 2008 to 2012, where he worked on research projects on autonomous vehicles and traffic management. Dr. Au received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Maryland, College Park, in 2008. He is an associate editor of IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters and an advisory board member of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Technical Committee on Algorithms for Planning and Control of Robot Motion.

Research Interests

Dr. Au's research aims to scientifically investigate the foundations of multiagent systems, specifically multirobot systems, using techniques such as heuristic search, dynamic programming, motion planning, domain-independent planning, machine learning, automated reasoning, game theory, etc. The topics of his recently funded projects are 1) high-density parking lots for autonomous vehicles, 2) traffic speed and congestion prediction for broadcast stations, 3) high-performance deep learning systems for disaster management, 4) telepresence security robot teams, and 5) AI companions for the elderly.

Teaching Interests

I am interested in teaching data structures and algorithms, artificial intelligence, and robotics.
