Monica Ruiz-Mills, PhD
Dr. Monica Ruiz-Mills is a seasoned educator with over 35 years of experience in education. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and a Master's degree in Music from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), complemented by a PhD in School Improvement from Texas State University.
Her career began in music education, where she dedicated 22 years to shaping young minds as both an assistant and head band director at various middle and high schools. Transitioning into educational administration, Dr. Ruiz-Mills has held several pivotal roles, including Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction and Principal.
At the district level, her leadership expanded as she took on responsibilities as a Fine Arts Coordinator, Assistant Superintendent, and Deputy Superintendent. She also contributed to state-level educational initiatives through a position at the Texas Education Agency.
Currently, Dr. Ruiz-Mills enriches future educators as a Resident Region Site Coordinator/Faculty Field Supervisor and Assistant Professor of Instruction at Texas State University. Additionally, she leverages her extensive experience as an education consultant. Her professional journey includes significant contributions to Northeast ISD, Alamo Heights ISD, Harlandale ISD, San Marcos CISD, Antonian College Preparatory High School, and the Texas Education Agency. Dr. Ruiz-Mills continues to be a pivotal figure in shaping educational practices and policies.
