Biography and Education
Melanie Hutchinson is a recently retired Tax Partner in the Financial Services - Asset Management practice of PwC's Houston office. Melanie has more than 25 years of experience serving clients in this area, and recently retired after 12 years as a Tax Partner to focus on her passion for developing and educating students on careers in Accounting.Relevant experience
Melanie began her career as an intern with PwC, and since then has served as lead tax advisor to many fund managers, including private equity funds, investment partnerships, funds of funds, energy funds, and other structured investment vehicles. She is active in assisting clients in the Asset Management practice with complex partnership tax reporting, including coordinating timely annual reporting and filing requirements for structured investment vehicles and their investors. Specific areas on which Melanie advises include structuring of funds and investments in a tax efficient manner, US withholding taxes, check-the-box planning, and assisting clients with resolving complex conflicts with the Internal Revenue Service.
Melanie spent five years as the lead Partner in charge of recruiting for Houston Tax at Texas A&M University. In that time PwC’s acceptance rate rose significantly to over 50% each year in a very competitive environment. She is passionate about recruiting and educating students on the many career paths a degree in Accounting can provide. In addition she has spent countless hours developing her team technically, while serving as a mentor and sponsor to her team members throughout the years.
Education and certifications
Melanie received her undergraduate degree and Master of Accounting degree from Rice University in Houston, Texas. She is a CPA licensed to practice in the state of Texas.
