Biography and Education
Danielle Roos is a director, theatre maker, and teaching artist with an MFA in Directing from Northwestern University. She is an Assistant Professor of Directing and a member of the Graduate Faculty at Texas State University. Danielle is an Associate Member of SDC (Stage Directors and Choreographers Society), the founder of Yellow Rose Productions, and co-founder of the Henley Rose Playwright Competition for Women in Knoxville, TN.Prior to teaching at Texas State, Danielle was the Northwestern Directing Fellow at Goodman Theatre where she worked as a member of the Artistic Department and was on the Producing Team for Goodman’s Pearl Cleage Festival, New Stages Festival, and Sweetest Season Festival. Danielle was the PA for PERRY STREET (written by Lucy Thurber, directed by Thomas Sadoski) during the 2023 New Stages Festival and she directed two of the Staged Readings for the 2023 ENOUGH! Plays to End Gun Violence presentations at Goodman. Danielle served as a member of the Literary Team for Goodman’s New Stages Residency, as well as a member of the Native Community Outreach Committee and Play on Words Committee. Also at Goodman, Danielle Assistant Directed the pre-Broadway production of MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL, assisting Rob Ashford, and THE PENELOPIAD (Jeff Award Winner - Ensemble), assisting Susan Booth.
While in Chicago, Danielle taught Northwestern University’s MFA New Play Collaboration II class alongside Thomas Bradshaw and produced the 2024 New Play Festival showcasing the work of Northwestern’s Second Year MFA Directing and Playwriting students.
Directing credits include CABARET (John Kander, Fred Ebb, Joe Masteroff) at Middle Tennessee State University, where she also adapted and directed THE BUSIE BODY by Susanna Centlivre in 2021. Danielle directed the world premiere of PARTY OF TWELVE by Mary Donnet Johnson for the Rutherford Arts Alliance and was also hired as an interim Adjunct Professor at MTSU to teach Director / Designer Collaboration and Fundamentals of Directing.
While at Northwestern University, Danielle directed THE FLICK by Annie Baker, WOYZECK by Georg Büchner, and her own adaptation of Shakespeare’s JULIUS CAESAR. With Yellow Rose Productions, Danielle directed and produced FICTION by Steven Dietz, ALL IN THE TIMING by David Ives, and an original show she co-wrote titled PRINCESS CUT. Danielle directed and produced PRINCESS CUT for the 2015 New York International Fringe Festival and a series of performances around the Southeast United States.
Additional Assistant Directing credits include Lauren Gunderson’s BOOK OF WILL assisting Jessica Thebus at Northlight Theatre, ON CLOVER ROAD (by Steven Dietz) assisting Halena Kays (Jeff Award Nominee - Director) at American Blues Theater, Caryl Churchill’s A NUMBER assisting Robin Witt at Writers Theatre, COMFORTABLE SHOES (by Ida Cuttler) assisting Halena Kays at the Neo-Futurarium and a Zoom workshop of MOURNING SONGS (by Ryan Langer) assisting Shana Cooper.
Danielle holds a BA in Theatre Arts and Digital Media Production from Dordt University where she received the Outstanding Directing Award for her production of MACHINAL from the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival.
