Biography and education
Dr. Marcelo M. Carvalho received the B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), Brazil, in 1995, the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from State University of Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil, in 1998, the M.Sc. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB), in 2003, and the Ph.D. degree in computer engineering from the University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC) in 2006. Before joining Texas State University, he worked at the University of Brasilia and the Federal University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor with the Ingram School of Engineering, Texas State University, where is the Director of the Sustainable High-Performing Intelligent Networks (SHINe) lab. His research interests are in the areas of wireless and mobile networks, Internet of Things, communications networks (5G/6G), and AR/VR-based multimedia streaming.
Dr. Marcelo M. Carvalho is the co-recipient of the 2019 IFIP/IEEE Wireless Days Best Paper Award, the 2022 WebMedia Best Paper Award, and the 2024 Workshop on ns-3 Best Paper Award. He has served as a General Co-Chair of IEEE MASS 2016, a Program Co-Chair of IEEE MASS 2019, an Area Co-Chair of IEEE ICCCN 2020, a Track Co-Chair of IEEE/ACM CCGrid 2024, and a Track Co-Chair of IEEE Cloud Summit 2025. He has been serving on the technical program committee of many conferences, such as IEEE ICC, IEEE WCNC, IEEE CCNC, IEEE LNC, IEEE GLOBECOM, and as a Reviewer for many journals. He is a member of the IEEE and ACM Societies and serves as a Vice-Chair of IEEE ComSoc Central Texas Chapter and as a Faculty Advisor of the IEEE Mu Upsilon Eta Kappa Nu Chapter (MY-HKN).
