Biography


Cindy Peña obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biology and her Master of Arts degree in Bicultural-Bilingual Studies from The University of Texas at San Antonio. Her research interests include the use of Testimonios as a research methodology that serves as decolonizing method to (re)tell oral histories from the subjective narrative of marginalized people/communities. Her Master's thesis special project developed a short video documenting the educational experiences of Latinas in higher education. Dr. Peña currently researches the educational pathways of immigrants in community-based adult education programs. Her dissertation was based on the testimonios of mexicanas learning English as a second language. She graduated from the Adult, Professional and Community Education doctoral program at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Cindy Peña is a native of San Antonio, Texas, where she resides.

Research Interests

Immigration issues and educational pathways for Latinas/os; How Latinas/os obtain degrees in higher education; Integration of technology in classroom settings; Development of innovative critical methodologies using testimonios, and Chicana feminist epistemology in adult educational research.
