Faculty Profiles

Julio is the Coordinator of Musical Theatre Dance. Native Spanish speaker and fluent in English. He received his BFA in dance performance from The Ailey School/Fordham University program and MFA in musical theatre from San Diego State University. He has spent the past 20 years as a performer, producer, director, choreographer and educator in the United States and abroad. Julio previously served as an adjunct instructor at Syracuse University and student graduate instructor at San Diego State University. He is a member of Actors' Equity (AEA), American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) and Musical Theater Educators' Alliance (MTEA).

In 2020, Julio founded the nonprofit Teatro San Diego for which he raised over $150,000 through fundraising efforts and grant writing. He served as president of Teatro San Diego from 2020-2025. His passion is the continued effort in providing access to arts education in communities and neighborhoods historically under-funded and under-represented in the performing arts. Julio has performed in dance companies including Ballet Hispanico, MOMIX, City Ballet of San Diego, New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble, San Diego Dance Theatre, San Diego Ballet and Unity Dance Ensemble.
He has danced in works by Jerome Robbins, Alvin Ailey, Geoffrey Holder, Julie Bour, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, William Whitener, Elisa Monte, Peter Chu, Thang Dao, Robert Battle, Stefanie Batten Bland, Bradley Shelver and Tessandra Chavez.
