Biography and education

Dr. Liu earned his Bachelor of Science in Economic Geography from Peking University and his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Liu joined Texas State University in 2022 after working almost 20 years at East Carolina University, where he served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Economics.

Dr. Liu’s research focuses on health and labor economics as well as the use of econometrics in public policy analysis. His work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the United States Coast Guard, the Department of Defense, and the Duke Endowment. He has published in numerous journals, including Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Development Economics, International Economic Review, and others.
