Biography and Education

Dr. Youjeong Kim is a highly accomplished associate professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Texas State University. As a dedicated educator, her primary focus is on writing for electronic media, with the aim of providing her students with the knowledge and skills required to succeed in today's rapidly evolving media landscape.

Dr. Kim's academic journey began with a master's degree in Mass Communication from Kansas State University, where she gained valuable experience and expertise in the field. She then pursued her Ph.D. in Communications at Pennsylvania State University, where she further honed her skills and knowledge in the subject. Throughout her academic career, Dr. Kim has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to her students and the field of journalism and mass communication, and her contributions have been widely recognized and celebrated.

Teaching Interests

Dr. Kim currently teaches a diverse range of courses at Texas State University, including MC3306 (Electronic Media Writing), MC2111 (Bobcat Update Video Production), MC5306 (Theories of Mass Communication), and MC5316 (Digital Media Issues).

Research Interests

Dr. Kim's research focuses on the social and psychological impacts of new media technology in health-related communication, ranging from websites to virtual environments. Specifically, she is interested in exploring the influence of immersive and interactive technology like AR/VR on user information processing and health-related behavior. Dr. Kim's work has led to various journal publications, including Computers in Human Behavior and International Journal of Virtual Communities and Social Networking.

Her contributions have also earned her several accolades, such as the Distinguished Paper Award from the Pan Pacific Business Research presentation in 2016 and the Outstanding Research Presentation Award from the Health Communication Conference in 2015. As a sole principal investigator, she has received grants for her research, such as the one from The Breneman Jaech Foundation for "Orchestrating Plants: The Impact of Interactive Plants on Social Skills Enhancement Among Autistic Children."
