Biography and education
I started college as a theater major and found my way into English and philosophy, earning my BA in English, my MA in literature, and my PhD in philosophy. My interdisciplinary background shaped my current academic interests. I wrote my dissertation in aesthetics and drew on my years in literary studies to provide most of the case studies against which to hone my philosophical arguments.
I earned my PhD at UNT, whose philosophy program boasts the first graduate environmental philosophy focus. As such, I studied environmental philosophy under some of the founders of the field (Baird Callicott, Gene Hargrove, and Pete Gunter). This emphasis also led me into philosophy of technology, as our relationship with technology plays a crucial role in most of our ecological crises.
