Biography and Education
Maria Luisa Illescas-Glascock is a certified bilingual educator working with Early childhood-16 students for almost 30 years. Born and raised in Mexico City, she is a proud first-generation graduate, woman of color, immigrant, and mother of two young men. She has worked in public and private schools, served as an elementary school administrator, coordinator for teachers in-preparation, and mentor to national board-certified teacher candidates. Her profession as an educator has taken her to learn and teach in multilingual places including Mexico, Spain, United States, China, Japan, and Myanmar. Her home base is in Austin, Texas when she is not traveling or working abroad. She currently teaches at Texas State University in the area of Early Childhood preparing future ESL/EC-6 elementary education teachers.Maria Luisa graduated as an elementary school educator from the Escuela Normal de Maestros in Mexico. She received a BA in Psychology from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico; obtained her MEd in International Teaching from Framingham State University, and was conferred a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction |Cultural Studies in Education from the University of Texas at Austin. She is a National Board-certified educator in Early Childhood.
