Biography and education

Jessica Robinson is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction who is honored to support future educators as they prepare for successful careers.

Prior to joining the faculty at Texas State University, Ms. Robinson served as the director of the University of Georgia’s College Advising Corps, where she led partnerships with seven school districts in metro-Atlanta to increase the number of first-generation college, low-income, and historically underrepresented students who enrolled in higher education.

Ms. Robinson began her career in education as a high school English teacher after obtaining a BA in Comparative Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2004 and a MAT from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2005. During her tenure as a teacher, she earned National Board Certification in the area of Adolescent Language Arts.

Interested in a variety of approaches to literacy education, Ms. Robinson earned a MLIS from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2016, where she was recognized with a Graduate Research Scholar Award. She coordinated a partnership with a charter elementary school during her tenure as a youth services librarian at a public library.

In addition to her service as a teacher, librarian, and program director, Ms. Robinson has held a variety of other leadership positions, including work as a literacy consultant for a federal Ready to Read Grant, a test item writer for End-of-Course Exams through North Carolina State University’s Center for Urban and Community Affairs, and a teacher trainer with Harvard University’s READS for Summer Learning project.
