Biography Section

Biography and Education

Wyatt holds a Master of Arts in Spanish from Texas State University. He also holds a dual Bachelor’s Degree from Texas State University in both Spanish and English for which he was awarded the distinction of summa cum laude upon his graduation in 2016. Wyatt completed a thesis regarding colloquialisms and the role these play in the instruction of discourse and pragmatic competencies in advanced Spanish-language learners. He has also completed an independent study of Contemporary Immigrant Literature in the United States with a focus on Spanish-speaking authors.

Wyatt's has spent the last 4 years teaching in fully-online and hybrid modalities, and researching Second Language Pedagogy and Teaching Methodology in virtual learning modalities which focus on the use of relevant and contextualized multimedia and other realia with guided-inductive methodologies to help students negotiate meaning and be active in their learning.

Wyatt’s research interests include Second Language Acquisition (SLA) in advanced language learners, instruction of advanced discourse and pragmatic competencies, linguistic assimilation, data-driven second language instruction, and the ways in which language is used to effect alterity in language communities.

A recipient of the 2020-2021 Daniel P. Frouman Graduate Spanish Scholarship, Wyatt has been recognized for his dedication to scholarship and teaching. He was also the recipient of the 2019-2020 Graduate Merit Fellowship for his studies at the master's level. Wyatt is a member of the National Hispanic Honor Society, Sigma Delta Pi, and the National Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi.

Research Interests

Spanish Linguistics: Semiotics, Second Language Acquisition (SLA), Discourse Competencies, and Affect in SLA.
