Biography Section

Biography and Education

Leia Downs is a Lecturer and the Graduate Program Co-Coordinator in the Nutrition and Foods Program in the School of Family and Consumer Sciences. Additionally, she is a registered and licensed dietitian who practices clinically within the Christus Santa Rosa hospital system. At Texas State University, Ms. Downs earned her BFA in theatre, her MS in Human Nutrition, and completed her Dietetic Internship. During her MS program, she worked as a Graduate Instructional and Research Assistant. Presently, she serves on a number of committees as part of her role as Graduate Program Co-Coordinator.

Teaching Interests

Introductory nutrition science, biochemistry and metabolism, the impact of nutrients on gene expression, and the science of functional properties of foods
