Biography
Sara Boysen, MHIM, currently serves as the Interim Director and Online Program Coordinator for the Health Sciences Program.
From 2002-2025, Sara served as the Director of the College of Health Professions Advising Center at Texas State. During that time, she led the advising operations during the college’s biggest period of enrollment growth. Additionally, she established strong partnerships with staff, faculty, and leadership across the college.
Sara developed the proposal for the Bachelor of Science with a major in Health Sciences and was instrumental in receiving approval to start the program in Fall 2019. Since its implementation, the BS in Health Sciences has grown to be the largest undergraduate program at Texas State. During that time, Sara has assisted with curricular changes to the BS in HS to meet the evolving goals of the college and provide students with different options within the degree plan. In Fall 2024, Sara developed and taught the Introduction to Health Professions course and coordinated its delivery across all sections.
Sara has also taught for the Department of Health Informatics & Information Management since 2019. She has also served on various committees, including the Provost’s Academic Advising Taskforce, which was charged with evaluating advising and developing new strategies and advising approaches to support student retention and graduation.
Sara has published an article in Communications for the Association of Information Systems and has delivered national presentations at AHIMA’s Assembly on Education and AUPHA’s Academic Forum. She has received recognition for her work in advising, including Texas State’s Employee of the Month (2020), Texas State’s Quarterly Team Award (2010, 2012), TEXAAN’s Outstanding Academic Advisor in Texas (2011), Advisor of the Month at Texas State (2010), and Foundations of Excellence award at Texas State (2014).
Sara holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History (2002) and a Master’s degree in Health Information Management (2018), both from Texas State University.
