Biography and education
Jennifer Porterfield, Ph.D. is the Associate Dean for Educator Preparation and an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Special Education Program at Texas State University. Previous roles at Texas State University include Senior Lecturer, Special Education Coordinator and Special Education Graduate Advisor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. Porterfield was a practitioner for 20 years working with children with high incidence disabilities in inclusive settings as well as supervising special education teachers as the Director of Special Education in a public school charter school setting serving students in educationally underserved communities. Her academic credentials include certification in general and special education, certification as an educational diagnostician, a masters degree in teaching with an endorsement in special education, and a doctorate in special education with an emphasis in learning disabilities and behavior disorders from The University of Texas at Austin. She has experience supervising, coaching, and mentoring special education teachers and related service professionals in inclusive settings, resource settings, life skills programs and behavior programs.
