Biography

Joshua J. Daspit, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Management at Texas State University’s McCoy College of Business. His research focuses on family businesses and entrepreneurship, with an emphasis on the ways family involvement shapes governance, strategy, innovation, and long-term performance. He is a Fellow of the Family Firm Institute and has authored more than 50 publications, appearing in outlets such as Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Family Business Review, Human Resource Management Review, Journal of Business Research, and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal.

Dr. Daspit’s research productivity has been recognized through the Family Business Research Productivity Ranking, where he ranked #3 in the United States in 2024. He serves on the editorial boards of premier outlets in entrepreneurship and family business, including Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Entrepreneurship & Regional Development, Family Business Review, Journal of Family Business Strategy, and Journal of Family Business Management, and has previously served as an Associate Editor for Family Business Review and Journal of Family Business Strategy.

Committed to producing research with practical relevance, Dr. Daspit is the Founding Director of SCALEUP (https://scaleup.txstate.edu/), a Texas State University initiative that translates research insights into actionable support for small businesses. Further, he has served as a Research Fellow with the university’s Translational Health Research Center, where he helped launch an awards program recognizing small businesses across Texas.

Dr. Daspit is also dedicated to student development and experiential learning. He developed a service-learning project in which his entrepreneurship students raised over $200,000 for local nonprofit organizations, and in 2020, he was recognized internationally as “Best Advisor,” along with co-advisor Dr. Corey Fox, for his work with the university’s Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization chapter. In 2021, he received a Presidential Award for Excellence at Texas State University.

Before joining academia, Dr. Daspit worked as a senior consultant for an international consulting firm and served as Director of Community Affairs for a member of the United States Congress. He founded a family business in 2017 and continues to engage with organizations through consulting and community-focused work.
