Biography
Stephen Anthony Garcia is an Assistant Professor of Instruction at Texas State University. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (2011) and a Master of Education in Educational Technology (2020), both from Texas State University. He is certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
Mr. Garcia brings over fifteen years of professional experience in clinical laboratory science across hospital, clinical, and research settings. His professional roles have included Laboratory Manager at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa New Braunfels, Point of Care Coordinator at Methodist Hospital Stone Oak, Microbiology Supervisor at Central Texas Medical Center, and Clinical Chemistry Supervisor at Pain Specialists of Austin. In these roles, he was responsible for regulatory compliance with accrediting bodies such as the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and The Joint Commission, clinical testing oversight, staff training and competency assessment, and consultation with healthcare providers.
Mr. Garcia has maintained a long-standing instructional role at Texas State University, serving as an Adjunct Clinical Lecturer in Medical Laboratory Science from 2013 to 2024 prior to his appointment as Assistant Professor of Instruction in 2025. He currently teaches courses in both the Medical Laboratory Science and Health Science programs, including MLS 4341 Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, HS 1310 Introduction to Health Professions, and HS 3331 Healthcare Systems in the United States. Mr. Garcia’s scholarly contributions include co-authorship of a peer-reviewed article published in Clinical Laboratory Science examining the prevalence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) on exercise equipment in athletic facilities.
