Faculty Profiles

Dr. Susan Johnson is a full-time lecturer at Texas State University, where she teaches graduate-level courses in public administration, organizational theory, and public personnel management. She brings to the classroom more than four decades of distinguished public service leadership in Texas state government.
Dr. Johnson’s career spans executive roles across multiple state agencies, including Associate Commissioner for Workforce Support Services and the Office of the Ombudsman at the Health and Human Services Commission, Organizational Development and Training Manager and Human Resources Manager at the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, and Staff Assistant to the Executive Deputy Commissioner at the Texas Department of Human Services. She also served as Director of Program Planning for the Health and Human Services Policy Council in the Office of the Governor and as Training and Development Section Supervisor at the Texas Department of Transportation.
Dr. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, a Master of Arts in Managing Human Resources Development Leadership from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Ph.D. in Urban Higher Education from Jackson State University.
An engaged civic leader, Dr. Johnson is a Life Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., a member of the Austin Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, and a former docent at the Governor’s Mansion. She formerly served as a member on the Ann Richards School Foundation Board of Directors. Currently serves on the Dell Seton Medical Center Community Leadership Council, the Faith House Board of Directors, and the board of the American Heart Association.
