Biography and education
Soomin Jung Remmler is an American artist born in Seoul, South Korea. She relocated to San Antonio, Texas, where she earned her MFA from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2008.
Her work has been recognized through several prestigious residencies, including a private artist residency in Zermatt, Switzerland, sponsored by the CEO of Proseq (2023); The Studio residency at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, TX (2022); and a student residency at the Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy, funded by UTSA (2005).
A nationally and internationally exhibiting artist, Soomin currently serves as an Associate Professor of Instruction at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. She is also collaborating with the City of San Antonio on a public art project for the Sonterra–Gold Canyon roundabout.
In addition to her studio practice, Soomin served as a juror for Colored Pencil Magazine’s Annual International Competition (2022) and was awarded Best of Show in the Colored Pencil Society of America’s International Exhibition (2018).
