Biography Section

Biography and Education

Molly Sherman is an artist, designer, and educator based in San Antonio, Texas. Her work investigates an expanded approach to socially engaged art and graphic design that creates new possibilities in form and encourages audiences to visualize, examine, and reflect on local contexts and social matters.

Recent exhibitions include People’s Homes at the Contemporary at Blue Star in San Antonio, TX, One to Another: Borderland Collective at Artpace in San Antonio, TX, and Collective Museum at the Institute of the Arts and Sciences at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

She is the co-editor of Otherwise, It Would Be Just Another River with Jason Reed (2023, Spector Books). Grants from Texas State University, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts (Precipice Fund), and the Regional Arts & Culture Council have supported her work, and she has participated in residencies at the Matisse Museum in Le Cateau-Cambresis, University of California, Santa Cruz, and Texas Woman’s University. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, Glasstire, Texas Observer, and BOMB Magazine.

In addition, she designs books and exhibitions for artists and cultural organizations through her independent design practice Molly Sherman (Design). Her design work has been recognized by Commercial Arts and AIGA 50 Books | 50 Covers.

Molly is an associate professor in communication design at Texas State University. She holds an MFA in art and social practice from Portland State University and a BFA in graphic design from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
