Biography
Dr. Andrea Golato became dean of The Graduate College at Texas State University in July of 2013. She holds the equivalent of a master's degree in translation studies with a specialization in economics from the Johannes-Gutenberg-University Mainz at Germersheim, Germany. She earned her Ph.D. in German applied linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to joining Texas State University, she held faculty appointments at the University of Oregon, Utah State University, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she was also one of the associate deans of The Graduate College.
Research Interests
Dr. Golato’s research falls within the methodological framework of conversation analysis. Specifically, she investigates the connection between grammar and interaction on the one hand, and language use in different cultures on the other. She is currently involved in three major research projects, one on response tokens, another on repeats in interaction, and the third on the acquisition of pragmatics.
Teaching Interests
Although currently not teaching, Dr. Golato's teaching interests lie in Conversation Analysis, Pragmatics, Intercultural Communication, and Business German.
