Biography and education

Dr. Jennifer A. Czocher is a Professor of Mathematics at Texas State University. She was a recipient of the 2018 Australia Endeavour Fellowship, focused on improving teaching and learning of mathematics through mathematical modeling. She is an associate editrix at Journal of Mathematical Behavior and serves on the editorial boards for Mathematical Thinking & Learning and International Journal of Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education. She serves as Secretary for the International Executive Committee for the International Community of Teachers of Modeling and Applications (ICTMA) professional organization. Her research interests include students’ mathematical thinking and cognition, research in undergraduate mathematics education (RUME), the impact of mathematical modeling tasks on students’ mathematical thinking, and how mathematical reasoning supports STEM education. She also enjoys thinking about epistemological and philosophical issues in mathematics education. Her current projects investigate how individuals learn to use mathematics as a representational system, the role teacher questioning may have in helping individuals coordinate their mathematical and non-mathematical knowledge, and the institutional and departmental conditions that are conducive to the adoption of modeling-first mathematics classes for STEM majors.
