Biography and Education
I started my career as a software engineer. As I had experience working with American professionals expatriated in France and I worked in the US, I was approached by a global training company to train Americans moving to France for work. I really enjoyed the transmission of knowledge and this was the trigger for my teaching career. I started tutoring and teaching Continuing Education at Austin Community College. After a few years I wanted to teach at university level because I am very creative and I wanted the academic freedom to teach my native language. I did a master in Foreign Languages Education at UT Austin and was hired at Texas State University straight away.Teaching Interests
I love to grab onto cultural current events in France which are interesting for people in their 20s. I like to incorporate cultural elements in my classes as I find them very engaging for our students.I have started a student club this semester called "la culture pop" where I will be showcasing past and current pop culture.
I teach modern French as a communication tool in the professional world as I believe that this kind of language will be most useful for our student population. Also, this is what Ii am the best at. Some of my colleagues are good at teaching French literature and I leave this to them.
I created and taught a professional French for the business world class at Texas State a few years ago. This kind of class was why Robert Fischer, the chair of Modern Languages at the time, hired me. My professional goal is to teach more classes like this, e.g. French for artists, French for engineers, French for musicians
