Biography and Education
Dr. Jennifer Teal, EdD, RHIA, CCS, CPC currently works as a Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist with the Department of Veterans Affairs HIM Program Office. Dr. Teal has held various positions at the VA including Outpatient and Inpatient Coder, Coding Supervisor, and Chief of Health Information Management. She is currently the HIM Program Office liaison for Health Information Exchange (HIE) initiatives.In addition to her position with the VA, Dr. Teal is also Adjunct Faculty teaching online courses for both Texas State University and DeVry University. She previously served as President for the Alamo Area Health Information Management Association (AAHIMA) and Region 4 Director for the Texas Health Information Management Association (TxHIMA). She has served on the American Health Information Management Association's (AHIMA's) Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM), CCHIIM RHIA Exam Development Committee, CCHIIM Coding Exam Development Committee, CCHIIM Exam Security Committee, Faculty Development Workgroup and the Community Workgroup for the Council for Excellence in Education (CEE), Health Information Exchange Practice Council, Legal EHR Leadership Model Task Force, and Enterprise Content and Record Management for Healthcare Workgroup.
Dr. Teal holds credentials as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through AHIMA and as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
