Biography and education
Melissa is an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Health Informatics and Information Management Department at Texas State University. With over a decade of teaching experience, she coordinates clinical placements and educates undergraduate students. Melissa’s career in HIM began in 2009, and she previously worked as an HIM Supervisor and Outpatient Coder. Recognized for her excellence in teaching, she received the Texas State University College of Health Professions Achievement Award in 2016, 2018, and 2024. Melissa actively volunteers with Capital Area TXHIMA and has presented at local, state, and national levels on topics related to her experiences as a HIIM educator. She is passionate about seeing her students succeed and is dedicated to mentoring them both as students and professionals.
