Biography and Education

Anna Mazurek has a master’s degree in photojournalism from the University of Missouri and a bachelor’s degree in advertising from the University of South Carolina.

She is a freelance photographer and writer. She has worked with a wide variety of publications and clients including The Washington Post, Texas Monthly, The Wall Street Journal, Facebook, Rolling Stone, Travel + Leisure and AFAR. Previously, she was a monthly travel columnist for The Denver Post, a contract photographer for Southern Living magazine and a graphic designer for The Birmingham News in Birmingham, Alabama.

She is currently a photo instructor for Lindblad/National Geographic Expeditions. She also managed summer photography trips for students in India and Southeast Asia for five years. She previously taught photography classes at Samford After Sundown at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.

She has traveled to 60 countries and runs a travel advice and photography blog, TravelLikeAnna.com. Her first self-published book, "Good With Money: A Guide to Prioritizing Spending, Maximizing Savings and Traveling More," was released in December 2018 and is available at Alkek Library for checkout. She has been featured in Forbes and The Washington Post as a travel expert.

She has contributed photography published in National Geographic travel photography books: "100 Hikes of a Lifetime" (Feb. 2020).

She currently teaches Freelancing For Media Professionals (MC3117), a course she built based on her experience, research and interviews with media professionals and organizations including Texas Monthly, NPR, GSD&M and The New York Times. She also teaches workshops on freelancing at the University of Texas at Austin.

She was also the recipient of the 2022 Part-Time Faculty in Excellence Award at Texas State University.
