Biography and education

Jon Zmikly is a TSUS Regents' Teacher and professor of instruction in the School of Journalism (SJMC) and Mass Communication at Texas State University. He is also the Assistant Director for the school's Media Innovation Lab in Old Main. He teaches digital fundamentals, web design, advanced coding, virtual reality, artificial intelligence and other courses focused on innovations in digital media. He is the faculty advisor for the Innovation Club where students get hands-on experience with tech tools through workshops, professional outings and guest speakers. Jon also serves on the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Minor Committee, as well as the university's ClassTech Committee. In the past, Jon has worked with teams of students to create and strategize social media and editorial content for the SJMC and managed the school’s website.

Zmikly earned a bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University in 2006 where he studied Broadcast and Cinematic Arts. After working at some local television and radio stations, he moved to Texas to seek a master’s degree in Media Studies at Texas State University. He graduated with a Master of Arts in 2009 and has since also worked as a freelancer and has become an associate pastor and media director for San Marcos Community Church.
