Biography and education

Harry Bowers serves as the Associate Director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He is also a Professor of Instruction and Mass Communication Program Coordinator. In his role as Associate Director, he handles course scheduling, curriculum management, assessment, enrollment management and student affairs.

He also serves as the unit's education abroad coordinator, curriculum development coordinator and online course development coordinator. Bowers also serves as the faculty advisor for the Mass Communication Living-Learning Community (LLC).

Bowers has over twenty-eight years of experience working in higher education. Bowers teaches courses such as Careers in Media, Introduction to Mass Communication, Advertising, International Strategic Communication and University Seminar.

Bowers holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Political Science and a Master of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Mass Communication from Texas State University. He also holds an Online Teaching Certificate from the Online Learning Consortium and a Certificate in Mediation from Texas State University.

Bowers has been the recipient of the American Advertising Federation (AAF) James H. Fish Award for Service to Advertising Education. Bowers has also been an invited presenter at both the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) annual convention and the Texas Academic Advising Network (TEXAAN) annual conference.

Bowers has led/co-led School of Journalism and Mass Communication Education Abroad Programs since 2014 to destinations that include England, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, Switzerland and Wales.
