Biography and education
Jules Buck Jones is an artist living and working in Wimberley, TX. Jules creates large scale paintings and drawings of abstracted flora and fauna. The work showcases a range of interests in the natural sciences, local ecologies, and geologic time. He is interested in exploring various modes of imagery, from expressive, atmospheric landscapes, to graphic, narrative scenes. Jules abstracts plant and animal imagery to produce surreal moments and relationships.
In November 2025, Jules completed a commission for the new Community Library in Anna Texas. He painted and installed 20 shaped panels exploring the ecosystem of the Blackland Prairie. Earlier that Spring, Jules had a solo show at David Shelton Gallery titled Rivernacular, showing framed watercolors and ink paintings of forest and river landscapes. In November 2024, Jules showcased a 40’ sculpture of a Mosasaur skeleton in Downtown Austin at Waterloo Greenway.
Jules founded and runs the art collective Animal Facts Club which produces printed matter, zines, videos, and performances, merging art with educational material since 2010.
Jules is currently working on a suite of paintings for Esperanza Hall at the Texas State University, Round Rock Campus. Jules teaches painting and drawing at TX State University, in San Marcos, with a focus on wet media and Risograph printing.
