Biography and Education

Tobie Minor is a seasoned professional in the world of theatre arts, specializing in both acting and stage combat. With a BA in Theatre Arts from New Mexico State University and 23 years of experience as an Advanced Actor Combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors, Tobie currently serves as the Director of Stage Combat and Intimacy, as well as an instructor of Movement at Texas State University.

In his role as Director of Stage Combat and Intimacy, Tobie has contributed to the development of the current Stage Intimacy Policies for the theatre department at Texas State University, showcasing his commitment to creating a safe and professional environment.

Tobie has become a respected figure in the Austin theatre scene. His expertise extends to choreographing violence for numerous productions in Austin and its surrounding areas, as well as at Texas State University.

His fight choreography credits include a diverse array of productions, such as "She Kills Monsters," "The Play That Goes Wrong," "Noises Off," "Romeo and Juliet," "Cabaret," "The Crucible," "Mr. Burns," "Hamlet," "Ragtime," "Fool for Love," "Norma’s Rest," "A Flea in Her Ear," "A View From the Bridge," "Evita," and "Titus," among others. Tobie has lent his choreographic skills to esteemed theatre companies including Zach Theatre, Austin Shakespeare, Austin Playhouse, Hidden Room Theatre, and Penfold Theatre, leaving an indelible mark on each production.

Tobie's dedication to his craft is evident in his versatile acting portfolio, featuring memorable roles such as Dr. Evans in "Sherlock and Watson," Richard Burbage in "The Book of Will" at Austin Playhouse, and John Goodman with La Fenice, among others.

In addition to his achievements on stage, Tobie has earned nominations and wins for several prestigious awards, including B. Iden Payne, Broadway World, and Critics Table awards. He has also received recognition for his teaching prowess, including the Texas State University Teaching Award of Honor and the College of Fine Arts and Communication Excellence in Teaching awards.
