Biography and education

Dr. Lloyd holds a bachelor of exercise and sports science degree from Texas State University, and both a M.A. and a Ph.D. degree in exercise physiology from The University of Alabama.

Dr. Lloyd joined the Texas State faculty in 1998 as an Instructor in the Department of Health and Human Performance, and became an Assistant Professor in the department in 1999. She was tenured and promoted to Associate Professor in 2005, and was promoted to Professor in 2014. While at Texas State, she has held several administrative positions which include her service as Assistant Dean of Research and Development in the College of Education in 2006-2007; Interim Department Chair of the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation in 2007-2009; as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the College of Education in 2011-2015; as Presidential Fellow in 2015-2016; and as Associate Dean of Research and Sponsored Programs in the College of Education from 2015 to the present. Dr. Lloyd is also a Co-Director for Total Wellness, which serves as a platform that offers students practical work experience, faculty and students research opportunities, and Texas State employees and community members access to low-cost, high-quality programs and special events designed to improve the health and well-being of children, teenagers, adults and seniors.

Dr. Lloyd’s research areas are in physical activity promotion and weight control, with primary research interests involving enhancing recruitment and increasing retention of participants enrolled in wellness programs. She has served on 19 graduate thesis/dissertation committees, published 27 research articles in peer-reviewed journals, made 34 research presentations, and procured more than $1,500,000 in internal and external grants and contracts.
