Faculty Profiles

Dr. Floyd Quinn is an Associate Professor of Practice in the McCoy College of Business at Texas State University.

Before joining McCoy College, Dr. Quinn was a lecturer in the H-E-B School of Business and Administration at the University of the Incarnate Word. He also taught in the Occupational, Workforce, and Leadership Studies department of the School of Applied Arts at Texas State and participated in a summer program at Vienna University of Economics and Business. He often lectures students at Malardalens University, Sweden, and previously served as an external examiner for management programs at University College Cork, Ireland, appointed by the Senate of the National University of Ireland.

Dr. Quinn’s research broadly focuses on the characteristics of environments that encourage individuals and groups to perform at their highest levels. He has written extensively on this topic, contributing to several textbooks, the Encyclopedia of Business Ethics and Society, and numerous articles. He coauthored the 8th edition of Groups: Theory and Experience, published by the University of Cambridge. He is currently writing a second book for Cambridge on virtual work groups.

Dr. Quinn is the recipient of the 2016 Jerome L. Neuner Award for Excellence in Professional Scholarly Publication from the American Association of University Administrators as well as the 2024 Outstanding Graduate Faculty Award (MBA program), and the 2018 and 2016 College Achievement Awards for Excellence in Scholarly/Creative Activities from Texas State University, among others.

Dr. Quinn served as Senior Administrator and MBA Program Director at Texas Health and Science University. He also served as Associate Director of Human Resources at Texas State University and as a Human Resources Consultant to the Texas State Auditor, providing consulting services to the Governor's Office, the state legislature, and state agencies and public universities. He headed HR at Surrey, Inc., and served as Divisional Human Resources Manager for the software company Epicor, with HR management responsibilities in Austin, TX, and Pleasanton, CA.
